The Optima range of step through trekking ebikes are our lightest. These ultra light machines are over 10kg lighter than most of the competition, weighing in at around 17kg.

Thanks to its exceptionally lightweight and sportive nature, it’s a very natural ride. The Optima embraces your sweat and hard work, working in unison with your efforts to tick off the miles. There are no bulky components to interfere with the riding experience, hence distractions are minimal. It’s all about the ride.

There’s full mudguards both front and rear. Also, the addition of a rear carrier means up to 15kg of carriage can be taken onboard.

Barely recognisable as a road bike with electric power, the Optima E40 is a highly affordable ebike that delivers. The combination of a strong and practically silent Ebikemotion X35 Plus motor and 250Wh battery ensures smooth power delivery and a helping hand when needed.

The engine offers an incredible torque thanks to its gearing, reaching 40Nm of torque with an optimal result at speeds up to around 15mph. These are ideal for commuting, city or road, right where it is needed. Simple and efficient. The Optima embraces the phrase “less is more” by combining an ultra light ebike with high efficiency.

Also, thanks to a clever frame design, full battery integration adds further to the highly pleasing aesthetics. Totally discreet.

With three levels of assistance, the ORBEA Optima E40 is a real joy to ride and very flexible. Head winds and hills need not be quite so draining as they could be. A simple mode button sits on the top tube, allowing the rider to change assist modes as well as turn the bike on and off. Different colour modes show which level is current.

However, that’s not all. Orbea have a further trick up their sleeve, their Range Extender!

How do I measure my height?

With your shoes off, stand upright against a wall, with your shoulders back and legs together. Use a pencil to make a small mark on the wall above your head (make sure you hold the pencil parallel to the floor). Then measure from the floor to your mark, in centimetres or feet and inches.

How do I measure my inside leg length?

With your shoes off, stand upright with your back against a wall. Place a book/ruler between your legs, level with your crotch. Then measure from the floor to the top of the book/ruler, in centimetres or feet and inches (it’s easier if a friend helps).

Q & A

Do all brands of ebike use the same unit of measurement?

No. Most brands show sizing in centimetres, however some use a S/M/L system, and others use inches. The table above includes all of these variations to help you find the right size.

Which size should I go for if I'm in between those listed?

If your measurements suggest that you have a choice of two different sizes, then in the end it’s a personal choice. Here are some rules of thumb to consider: Touring/Trekking ebikes - choose the smaller size. It is possible to make a smaller frame bigger (for example, by raising the saddle or fitting a longer the stem), whereas if the frame itself is too big for you, it’s likely to be less comfortable and won't feel right. eMTBs - choose the larger size. You’ll find an eMTB with a slightly larger frame easier to handle than one that feels cramped. You can always fit a shorter stem if necessary to reduce the reach to the handlebars.

How are ebike frame sizes measured?

An electric bike’s frame size is calculated by measuring the distance from the top of the seat tube (where the seat post inserts), to the centre of the front chainring. Sizing Guide
